Fees

Psychological services are not covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).

However, it is often covered, partially or fully, by most employee Extended Health Care Benefit Plans or by Private Health Care Insurance Plans. Please check with your insurance provider or your benefit plan to see if a psychologist or psychotherapy is covered by your plan, as insurance plans vary significantly. You can ask the following questions:

  • What are my mental health benefits?

  • What is my deductible, and has it been met?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

  • How many therapy sessions per year does my plan cover?

  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?

Other funding sources include:

  • Automobile insurance companies. This coverage is for clients or family members who have suffered psychological difficulties or pain because of a motor vehicle accident (MVA).

  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). This coverage is for clients who have suffered psychological difficulties or pain due to a work-place related accident, injury, stress, or incident.

  • Student health insurance plans.

  • Long-term disability plans.

  • Blue Cross Medavie.

  • Aboriginal health services.

  • Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB). This coverage is for victims and family members of deceased victims of violent crimes committed in Ontario.

  • Self-pay.

Our fees are in line with the recommendations of the Ontario Psychological Association.

Payment is made at the time of the service, at the beginning or end of each session, and you are given a receipt which you will either submit to your benefits insurer for reimbursement or collect for income tax purposes (the fees can be claimed as medical expenses on your personal income tax return).

Fees for clinically related telephone calls, letters, and reports completed outside of treatment sessions are billed in 10 minute intervals for the time spent.

Cancellation policy

Please let the practice know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Sessions that are not cancelled at least 24 hours in advance will be charged the full session fee, as that space was held for you. This policy helps facilitate a booking for another client in need. You can provide notice by email or phone. Insurance companies do not provide reimbursement for cancelled sessions. With your permission, we can provide email, phone call or text reminders of your appointment.

Confidentiality

Your personal health information, including the content of any discussions taking place during a session or assessment interview, cannot be disclosed to others without your consent, and is kept confidential. However, there are limitations to confidentiality and there are instances in which Psychologists are legally or ethically required to disclose personal information. These conditions are discussed clearly at the beginning of your first session.
