Who are Practicum Therapists?

Practicum therapists are graduate students in psychology who are in the final stages of their clinical training. They are completing a supervised practicum placement as part of their master’s degree in clinical psychology. These therapists have undergone extensive academic coursework and are now gaining hands-on experience by providing therapy to clients under the close supervision of licensed psychologists. While still in training, practicum therapists are highly knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated to supporting clients’ mental health needs using evidence-based approaches.

Why Choose Therapy with a Clinical Therapist Completing a Master of Psychology (M.Psy.)?

Initial Concerns Often Dissolve:

  • Though some clients may initially feel unsure about working with a therapist-in-training, research indicates these concerns are typically short-lived. Many clients report that the therapist’s interpersonal strengths quickly override any reservations about experience level.
