Bio:
Sashmita is currently completing her Master of Psychology in Clinical Psychology at Adler Graduate Professional School and holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Guelph.

As a student therapist, she is interested in working with children, adolescents, emerging adults, and adults experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship or attachment concerns, low self-esteem, identity-related challenges, and major life transitions. She is also interested in psychological assessment and supporting individuals with executive functioning needs.

Sashmita was drawn to psychology through her interest in understanding how relationships, culture, family experiences, and important life events influence the way people see themselves and navigate the world. Her professional experiences in educational, behavioural, and community-based settings have further strengthened her commitment to helping individuals feel understood, supported, and capable of creating meaningful change.
Her approach is warm, genuine, and collaborative. Sashmita recognizes that beginning therapy and sharing personal experiences can feel uncomfortable or vulnerable. She aims to create a welcoming and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel accepted and respected. She believes that a strong therapeutic relationship can provide clients with the safety needed to better understand their emotions, recognize patterns, and explore new ways of coping.

Sashmita values multiculturalism, inclusion, acceptance, and respect for each person’s individual experiences. She understands that culture, identity, family, community, and social environments can all influence mental health and well-being. She strives to approach each client with curiosity and cultural humility while ensuring that therapy reflects their personal needs, values, and goals.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Sashmita draws from different therapeutic approaches to meet each client's needs. Her work is informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness-based practices, attachment theory, and behavioural principles. She hopes to help clients develop greater self-awareness, build practical coping skills, strengthen their relationships, and approach themselves with increased confidence and self-compassion.

Sashmita speaks English and understands Nepali, which contributes to her appreciation of the ways language, immigration, and cultural identity can shape a person’s experiences.
